ALL JW's to be at the meeting this week...
by Newly Enlightened in.
we asked this person if it could be aqbout the terminology change and they said that was already read last week...... we remember the last time they did this.
got everyone all excited thinking the big "a" was coming and all it was about, was the literature would now be donated instead of charging for it.. .

BOTR- Announcement
by Band on the Run inlaw school is obviously not the hardest program to follow.
it isn't something that can be replicated on the internet.
a first year student can find the law.

Jehovah's Witnesses Say They Are The Most Educated In The World. How Would You Prove Otherwise?
by minimus inthey claim their schools, literature and teaching are far more superior than any "worldly" education.

Tainted Love: Your JW wedding
by Julia Orwell inmine was actually great because my non-jw parents decided to pay for the reception, limo, cake, dress, honeymoon, and more.
i can thank my non-jw parents for what a totally fun day it was.. but, half or more of the guests were jws, jws who don't speak to me anymore.
some have even slandered and abused me.

Our wedding was beautiful. The ceremony and reception were held at the same location. It was a catered affair in a brick mansion with the most beautiful windows. Our guests were still bragging on it years later. I absolutely hated that there were so many people in attendance. Even as a spiritual Bethel bride, I hated that I had to invite all of these JWs who were not really a part of my life. And, of course, the memories are further tainted because of all the JWs who no longer talk to or associate with us.
I swear weddings are for everyone else. They shouldn't be, but they are. Especially in JW Land. It's all about the guest list and how many "friends" you know and who's invited, who's giving the talk, who's saying the stupid prayer, blah blah blah.
The upside to my wedding is that 18 years later I'm still married to my best friend. We've done it all (including leaving the cult) together.

Don't let your job interfere with your meeting attendance
by Quarterback inrecently, a public speaker brought up this point that i remembered being preached in the 70's.
when they bring this matter up, they always manage to give you an experience of how one person stood his ground, and got a great job offer, as a result.. what about the many experiences of ones that were not blessed?
i can memtion horror stories of ones that should have kept working their meetings..

My grandfather heeded this sound advice many decades ago while raising 8 children. He had a very well paying job with a utilities company. The only "problem" was that it was a second shift position. *gasp*
So in order to prove his spirituality and faithfulness to Jehovah, he gave it up. That timeless piece of counsel is the gift that just keeps giving in WT land.
eta: The irony of that sage advice is that Bethel has 2nd and 3rd shift work just like worldly companies.

Doesn't the ARMAGEDDON teaching foster a MORBID view of the future?
by Black Man ineven when i was dyed-in-the-wool j-dub, i felt the armageddon teaching was one of the most morbid concepts to be hammered into the psyches of jws.
think about it, only jws would survive this catastrophe, which translates to roughly .001 percent of the population would survive while everyone else would die a horrible death.
that includes people who do good things and are good people, but are just not jws.

I am most ashamed that I didn't keep up with and show common decency for classmates, workmates and neighbors. Because of the Armageddon teaching, it was very easy to end relationships with these people and never think about them again. It's absolutely amazing to me now that this morbid view of the future and people was so natural to me.

Oh My God!!
by ABibleStudent inyesterday after an awesome workout at the gym i was walking to the front door and i saw my former friend who is a "spiritually strong" (non-thinking) jw walking towards me talking with a trainer.
i thought she was either there on a job interview or was taking a tour of the facilities before joining.. i thought should i say hi, should i say nothing, would she acknowledge me, etc.
i decided to say hi to make sure that she remembered that i am a member of this gym, so that she would not feel uncomfortable it she accepted a job there or joined it.. the gym is about 20 miles from where she lived when i was friends with her, but is in a convenient location between where she was living and where she works.. i said "hi n" about five feet before me, no response.. i said "hi n" a little louder about five feet after they passed me.

"@ cult classic - I know that it is difficult to seperate feelings for a JW when they have a cult persona and an authentic persona. The cult persona can definately act like an a$$. I believe that it is better to be kind to JWs because it will drive their cult persona crazy!"
It's not that difficult to separate feelings for a JWs cult and authentic personality. However, life is too short for me to spend energy and time trying to get JWs to return a simple greeting.
Either way, enjoy your workouts
